Dear CMSC Community, Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion (CMSC)? Our small but dedicated team works each day to support a global community of teachers, course participants, and those in the world looking to practice self-compassion—all with the shared mission of alleviating human suffering and improving the collective well-being of the planet through the practice of self-compassion. Here’s how we show up each day: Working to Nurture Our MSC Teachers – Our team provides training, mentorship, and ongoing resources to ensure teachers feel supported in bringing MSC to their communities. Creating Transformative Learning Spaces – From coordinating courses to offering free Circles of Practice, we design meaningful experiences for participants to deepen their self-compassion practice. Reaching a Global Audience – Whether through partnerships, social media, or outreach efforts, we’re always working to make self-compassion accessible to people from all walks of life. Expanding MSC Programs & Resources – We develop new courses, workshops, and retreats, ensuring MSC continues to evolve and meet the needs of our growing community. Building Connection & Support – Whether responding to participant inquiries, guiding teachers through training, or fostering conversations on self-compassion, we’re here to listen, uplift, and empower. Our team is passionate about this work because we’ve seen firsthand the power of self-compassion to transform lives. We’re honored to support this incredible community—and we’d love to hear from you! What brought you to MSC, and how has it impacted your life? Drop a comment or send us a message—we’d love to connect! In the coming weeks we will be highlighting team members so you can get to know us better, the first highlight is below in this email and is me! I am so grateful to work with such a talented and collaborative team here at CMSC, and look forward to introducing you to each spectacular human. Among these, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) programs have been extensively studied for their benefits in reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. While both programs share foundational mindfulness principles, MSC uniquely emphasizes the cultivation of self-compassion, aiming to foster a kinder and more understanding relationship with oneself. This recent study aims to compare the long-term effectiveness of the MSC program with the MBSR intervention over a one-year period. By employing a quasi-randomized controlled trial design, the research investigates how regular mindfulness practice influences psychological outcomes in participants engaged in either program. The findings seek to inform practitioners and individuals about the sustained impacts of these interventions, contributing to the optimization of mindfulness-based approaches for long-term mental health benefits.

Dear CMSC Community, As we step into August, I’m holding a deep appreciation for the heart and resilience of our global self‑compassion community. July offered two vivid reminders of what happens when we meet ourselves, and each other, with kindness. International Self‑Compassion Day invited personal pauses and shared reflections around the world; soon after, our Mid‑Year Renewal Retreat gathered thousands more to breathe, reconnect, and to share in compassionate community. These moments are...

Dear CMSC Community, There are times in life when big questions can arise—quietly, urgently, or unexpectedly. Recently, someone asked me, “What keeps you going?” I’ve been sitting with that question—especially through all the uncertainty and cruelty going on in the world right now—and I offer it to you, too, in whatever way it resonates. For me, in day-to-day moments, what keeps me going is a smile, a hug, a kind word, or nature’s awe-inspiring beauty. At work, as CMSC’s Communications...
